Čutkovska valley

Hi

We visited the Čutkov Valley on the third day of our stay in Liptov. It is one of the valleys of Veľká Fatra. It is located near Ružomberok, one could say that it is right behind the hill. Similar to the neighboring Hrabovská dolina, which I wrote about last time, this valley is also sought after primarily for relaxation and rest from the usual daily hectic life. Actually, we also came here for recreation, but not only that.

On vacations, we look for entertainment for children and adapt to most of them. It was no different now. The Obrovo amusement park is located here, where children will find many fun attractions. Trampoline, climbing frame, fishing or archery. There are also those here.

We were in Obrova all morning. The children jumped up, ran around and it looked like they would be happy for a while, so we went to eat. We had cheese specialties in this typical Liptov hut, and I must say that it was excellent. The smallest of us were so tired that they lay down in the stroller to get some sleep. And then it was my time to walk through the valley.

I took my son, who was already sound asleep, for a walk. Along the asphalt road, we climb slowly against the flow of the Čutkovo stream, after which this valley is named. On the way, we meet several tourists, or just people who chose to go for a walk in nature, like us.

It doesn't take long and we come to the dam. I stop at the information board where I read that the dam was built in 1942 for the needs of the plant at that time. Today it is used for recreation, primarily fishing. It is home to brook trout and striped bass.

I'm coming closer and really. The water is clean and I can watch the trout swimming up and down looking for something good to eat. Brown trout are found throughout Europe. Here in Slovakia, we can see it especially in the middle and upper sections of mountain streams. Water purity, temperature and oxygenation are important to him. It is very sensitive to water pollution. Since it is located in this dam, we can state that the water in it is clean.

It feeds primarily on the larvae of aquatic insects, but it also does not disdain insects that land on the water surface. It lives for 3-5 years. Trout sometimes travel several kilometers to their spawning grounds and are able to overcome obstacles such as waterfalls. It usually lays its eggs in October and November in places with a sandy or gravelly bottom.

After a short biology lesson, we continue. We come to the tourist guide, where I read that the cracked asphalt road goes all the way to the waterfall. I have to admit that I didn't study what was in Čutkovská dolina in advance at home, because I didn't expect that I would go for a walk like this. Yes, there is a waterfall here, and not just one, so I recommend a visit to this picturesque valley even to passionate tourists.

I look at the stroller. My son sleeps soundly in the fresh air. I don't hesitate for a moment and we continue our journey. A gentle climb gave way to a steeper one. However, a young family with a stroller is also walking in front of us, so I am sure that we can get to the waterfalls. A stream flows around the road. Its cooing and birdsong put my son to sleep even more. In some moments I even envy him. I would also take a nap in the fresh air with the sounds of nature.

About a ten minute walk from our destination, a screw fell out of my stroller wheel. Since I must have lost the nut earlier, I couldn't fix it. I just slipped it back in and drove carefully so that the wheel wouldn't fall off. Luckily it didn't wake my son up. However, we did not go further to the waterfall. We turn around and walk carefully back down.

We were at the dam again when he woke up. He didn't want to be in the stroller anymore, so he walked beside me. In a little while we arrived at the farm. They raise sheep and geese here. It is built primarily for children to get to know the animals a little. Of course, the two of us also joined them. My son wanted to feed them and at least that's how I photographed them for now.

While we were walking, the older children were still playing in the Giant. They were so tired that we walked to the lake where trout also swim and went back to the cottage.

I didn't get to the waterfalls, but I know they are here and I will definitely come back! And now you also know about this valley.

Thank you.
