Small juicy tomatoes

Today, I started very early and on my way to the office I stopped at a coffee shop that I really like. It has been a while since I visited this place, although it is one of my favorites.

At the entrance of this cafeteria there are some cement planters with many ornamental plants that give life to the place, but today there was something that caught my attention.

On the cement edges of the planters, I observed small clusters of fruit that I could not see well from a distance. They looked like bunches of grapes, like those you see in the great vineyards of Tuscany.

As I got closer, I could see that they were small tomatoes, cherry tomatoes (Solanum lycopersicum var. cerasiforme), which are much appreciated by chefs because their delicate size makes them ideal for assembling dishes, especially salads. It is strange to find such a plant here. Although it is a native of America, the taste of the tomato has conquered the palates of several cultures, so that many species of this plant have adapted to different climates (as long as they are not so cold.

If you can observe, the leaves of this plant are dark green and serrated. From a distance they could be mistaken for grape leaves, but they are not.

Everything about this plant is exotic. Its flowers are bright yellow and star-shaped.

Some of the fruits of this plant were a beautiful orange color and others were apple green. Maybe the green ones are just a few weeks away from ripening, who knows?

These fruits looked really appetizing and a memory came to my mind of a delicious salad that some friends prepared at their house.

I believe that although some tomatoes are not yet ripe, they will soon be harvested, because this plant needs sunshine to grow and ripen its fruit, as well as a climate with adequate temperature (20°C). We are in the middle of fall and the temperature is dropping and the sun is less, so I think the harvest is imminent.

I want to thank @sanzi13 for being an inspiration for this post. Thanks to her daily plant contest , she has planted in me the curiosity to research about the plants that I photograph with my cell phone. Thank you for this! Every day, I learn a little more about this beautiful world of plants.
